Sony's PlayStation Stars Loyalty Program to Shut Down, Promising a New Replacement Soon

Sony is discontinuing the PlayStation Stars rewards program PS4 and PS5 and it has already ceased accepting new members.

After significantly reducing the level of service in 2024 , Sony has inevitably announced the closure of the PlayStation Stars loyalty program after only three years of operation.

With this service, you had the opportunity to accumulate points through purchases and gaming activities, which were redeemable for discounts on an array of PlayStation items, such as games. Nevertheless, amassing enough points to cover the cost of a full-price game was quite challenging, particularly after Sony made the requirements more stringent earlier last year.

Even though PlayStation Stars sounded good on paper, it lacked proper promotion and Sony appeared to lose enthusiasm for it swiftly. However, as they are currently shutting it down, they have assured that they will introduce an improved version to take its place.

'Since initiating the program, we have gained significant insights from assessing the kinds of activities our participants engage with most effectively. As an organization, we continuously adapt to both player preferences and industry developments,' states the announcement on their website. PlayStation Blog .

'As part of this assessment, we've chosen to redirect our focus and will phase out the present iteration of PlayStation Stars. We'll keep examining the crucial insights gained from this initiative and are exploring methods to leverage these lessons.'

Effective right away, PlayStation Stars won’t be taking on any more new members. If you decide to cancel your subscription at this point, you'll forfeit all of your accumulated points, regardless of the number.
